How to work with Expedia

Why sell on Expedia?

Expedia has a wide range of tours, attractions, tickets, activities, and transfers on their platform, allowing for a opportunity for all tours & attractions. Your product will be distributed throughout their network of brands and affiliates such as Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity managed by one account.

Sign up process

  • Head to the Expedia Signup page and provide a bit of information about your company.

  • A Destination Manager will review your company’s eligibility for listing on the site. (4-6 weeks depending on backlog)

  • If successful, you will receive a DocuSign form to input your banking information where Expedia is to pay you.

  • An email will be sent to you with a contact information form to complete, where you will attach your certificate of liability insurance.

  • Your profile will be created and you will be provided access to the Local Expert Partner Central Self-Service tool to load your products. It takes on average 2 hours to complete one product in this portal.

How long it takes

When you join Expedia through the signup page, you are placed in a queue of onboarding suppliers. Each supplier is individually pre-screened by the Destination Manager in your area in order to ensure quality, value, and service for our customers

Make sure you have all the necessary documentation ready and information required to load your products into the Local Expert Partner Central Self-Service tool. The more information readily available about your company and products, the more likely they are to prioritize you in the onboarding queue.

Speed up the process with Magpie

Add your product content to Magpie and share it with resellers worldwide including exporting from Magpie directly into the Expedia supplier platform.

How much commission you pay

Your commission level is agreed upon with your Destination Manager prior to loading your products on the site. In general you can expect to pay 20-35% in commission

How you get paid

All suppliers are on an automatic payment scheme called Expedia Auto-Pay which means we will send you payment without the need to invoice Expedia.

Here is how it works:

On the first business day of the month the Expedia Accounts Payable team will pull a report of all arrivals/redemptions for the previous month.Expedia will automatically generate a payment for these arrivals/redemptions and send it to you via the payment method currently on file within 30 days.

Note: You must ensure the bank account is in the name of your company and is controlled by your company.

Magpie Opinion

Pros: Expedia is one of the most recognizable brands in travel. They have worldwide distribution and a customer reach operators could only dream of so having your products available for sale on their site will not only drive incremental sales and expand your reach, it provides you with credibility in the market.

Cons: Their platform is self service so after completing the contracting stage is when the majority of the work begins. You will need to create and manage each product manually in their extranet system which can be very labor intensive.
